When you receive an email stating your payment failed, you'll be directed to log back into your myNCDMV profile and update your payment method. Please be sure to delete the current bank account on file, and add a new payment method using the bank account and routing number exactly as they appear on your billing information.
The cause of an e-Check/ACH payment failure can vary. The most common failure reasons include an invalid account structure that was entered (most commonly a typo), or insufficient funds.
Regardless of the reason, you'll have an opportunity to reset your payment method and retry your renewal payment.
