Renew a North Carolina License or ID Card on myNCDMV
Skip the line and expedite the renewal process with myNCDMV. After logging in (see Create a Profile on myNCDMV), follow the steps below to get started:
Note: If you do not have a REAL ID in North Carolina, your new North Carolina credential will be noted "Not for Federal Identification". For more information, see N.C. REAL ID Frequently Asked Questions.
1. Select Driver Services from the "Services" drop down menu and click Renew a License or ID Card
2. Select your credential type and click I meet these conditions
3. Confirm the Eligibility Criteria, enter your credential information and click Search
4. Click Yes, it is to confirm the residential address on your credential is still accurate or select No, I moved to update your address
5. Confirm your mailing address by clicking Yes. Select No, use a different address to update your address.
Note: Address changes may require identity verification (see Identity Verification with MyNCID)
6. Enter your Phone Number and click Submit
7. Select your preferences for Organ Donation and Voter Registration
8. Review your information and click Looks good to proceed or select No, I need to change something to make an update
9. Click I understand to review your Payment Summary
10. Select I understand, add it to my cart then click Checkout on the cart notification
11. Select a payment method and click the blue Pay $--.-- button to complete your payment
After your payment is completed, an email confirmation and Temporary Driving Certificate will be sent. Orders are processed and mailed by the NCDMV and generally arrive in 20 business days.
